What is Burly's Story ...

May 2007 - it came to our attention of a short hair St. Bernard that needed adopting, he was found as a stray by the Seattle Humane Society. He was six months old at the time, and had a severely deformed right hind leg (x-rays showed it being a femur fracture that healed badly). Since it was useless, it was amputated by the Humane Society. He then went to a foster family, who cared for him post operation. It is through the foster family that we became aware of Burly. We met him, and fell in love with the big guy and adopted him. Our Vet tells us that having a missing hind leg, is a much preferred limb to be missing in a large breed as you know they carry so much more of their body weight in the front. He is fortunate to be able to lead a very normal life with our other dogs, and mobility seems not to be an issue for the big guy (except on smooth surfaces his hind foot will lose traction). He runs in the yard, rough houses with the other dogs, navigates stairs with no problem. We just love him so much, he is like a big cuddly bear.

Hello Everyone - My name is Burly (short for Burlington Northern - I was named after a freight train, go fig). I live in the Pacific Northwest with my three other canine companions (as well as my two very dear human friends). I love it here so much ... with all the trees and wildlife, my nose goes a mile a minute. I also have a very big yard to play in (1.25 acres) which is fairly level, so I can run and play all the time, or just rest if I get to tired. Well, this is it for my first blog, but I will write more when I have stuff to share - Burly

Burley,
Hello there. Love your dog photos & stories - we lost Finn McCool when we moved to Utah, he was a fine yellow labrador Kevin got at the pound in Boise. Our family misses him everyday, so it is nice that your owners share you and your other furry family members with us.
Have a ruff and run-derful day!
